UEPa EATERS UNITE: HAMBURGERS

It appears as though the next meeting of the UEPa mouths will be on Saturday, September 1 in Hamburg, Pennsylvania. On that day the small town will be holding its annual Taste of Hamburg-er Festival and will be hosting its annual hamburger eating contest.

Thanks to Ian for connecting me with Deena, the festival's organizer. He got her excited about having the UEPa in attendance and she even leaked the "rumor" to the local media. The contest parameters are simple. All you can eat in 6 minutes (possibly 8, I'm not sure). Deena and I talked about the need for a nice prize and, since they weren't expecting to host eaters of our caliber, they hadn't budgeted for a prize. But she was able to scrape together $50 and a what I'm assuming is a cool medal. That's better than nothing. She promised next year's prize will be better with more sponsors.

The contest starts at 1:30 pm in the Third Street stage area. That's according to the sign-up sheet she e-mailed me. If anyone wants to enter (I know two of you will already), email me at shoffner1974@yahoo.com and I'll send it to you. She's holding five of the 10 spots at the table for UEPa eaters, but I want to let her know by next Tuesday if we'll be using all of them. I'm also going to reach out that EATORF eating club from the Scranton area and see if they want to show up. This thing could get interesting.

I am definitely in. Do we have to send her a list of who it will be, or just five show up and we have the spots?

That's a nice pic. Nice hats too. Two UEPa All-Stars there. No doubt it'll be the two of you battling it out for the burger title in Hamburg.

Just fax your sign up form back to her before the contest and show up. Hit me up with your email addy...I'm so used to contacting you throught the blogosphere or MySpace that I just remembered I don't have your address.

As far as EATORF goes, I told K-Hill about it. Also Eric, one of the promoters who competes also. They are the top eaters there. It will be cool if they join in.

Philly guy good job saturday and im not being sarcastic about it. Anyone that was in that contest realizes it wasnt as easy as it looks. Why do i get the feeling certain eaters at the end of the table were given extra cheese pies. Just a thought, not looking to make problems

I have heard many different things about this eating competition. It is only an hour or so from my house. Consider me possibly showing up I love burgers and it should be fun meeting all you UEPA eaters.

Brian, thanks for that. I'm sure me and you had the same problem. In practice I was getting a pie down around the 5:40-6minute mark. I don't think there was any foul play, but I have a feeling someone swapped my pizza pie with some humble pie.

BB - Interesting conspiracy theory. You know I love them. Personally, I think a little extra cheese might help the pie slide down easier, but who knows. I remember eating in 3 Bros last year. Cheese or no cheese, it's definitely not easy.

K HILL - Sounds good...hope you can make it. Email me if you want the sign up form. Like I said, there are five spots being held for UEPa members, but I don't think we'll fill them, so you're welcome to have one.

PHILLY GUY - You ate Humble Bob's pie? No wonder he was able to eat 17 slices!

I tend to come up with some excuse to back out of a contest if i do poorly in a practice because normally the practice gives an accurate indication of how you will perform in the actual event. However this does not apply to everyone as you can see from Pete's practice. I was confirmed late in the day on thurs and had no intention of doing a practice the day before the contest. I took my chances and to make matters worse i barely got to the mall in the nick of time. Not making excuses but i admit those numbers i put up were not acceptable in my book. It just seems strange that Larry, myself, Pete and Subich (table enders) had similar problems while others breezed through the first pie with time to spare.Thats why i joked about "extra cheese" Just makes you wonder.

Similar to that is my theory that they hollow out the insides of the Nathan's hotdogs for Joey, Takeru and Pat. I think I had mentioned that to Pete one time or another.

Alright, pony up Payne. I'm driving from Virginia for this. You can drive from Philly. Screw the money, you should want to sink those teeth into that metal/title. Hamburger title from Hamburg: PRICELESS. I wonder how big these things are going to be? 1/4? 1/3? 1/2? God, I hope they are Krystal size. You'll see some serious shit.

CAREY - Hollow dogs. That's good stuff. You know, the thought of food tampering in favor of helping eaters put up big numbers never crossed my mind until I read some of these comments. I don't believe it happens, but it might be fun to plant that seed in some people's heads.

IAN - If the burgers are anything like the past two years, they're standard store-bought burger buns and patties. Mass produced and not very tasty. I'm bringing ketchup and A1. Seriously.

For the last time IAN... I do not live in or near PHILLY. PHILLY and PITTSBURGH (where I do live) are approximately 6 hours apart!!!

You are driving 3 hours... you actually live closer to HAMBURG than I do.

Come on, Derek, it is the same state, it must only take an hour to drive everywhere!
Is Hamburg near Harrisonburg?

Derek, I thought you were from Erie. Or Scranton. Either way, get your ass to Hamburg on September 1.

Is the Invader gonna be showing up for this contest. It would be an honor to face him in the heat of battle. I have heard numerous stories of his eating abilities. After competeing against GJoe, I could only imagine how much food one man can consume.
